Naomi R. Cahn, Harold H. Greene Professor of Law, was recently elected as a Fellow by the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel (ACTEC). ACTEC is the premiere estate planners' organization in the United States, comprised of leading trust and estates lawyers in all 50 states.

ACTEC has more than 2,500 members – called "Fellows" –  who practice throughout the United States, Canada, and other foreign countries. To qualify for membership, a lawyer must have no less than 10 years' experience in the active practice of probate and trust law or estate planning. "I am honored to have been elected as an Academic Fellow in the organization, and to join other members in working to improve the trusts and estates law," Professor Cahn said.

According to ACTEC, "Lawyers and law professors are elected to be Fellows based on their outstanding reputation, exceptional skill, and substantial contributions to the field by lecturing, writing, teaching and participating in bar activities."

Deborah O. McKinnon, the Executive Director of ACTEC, shared, "Representing GW Law, Profession Cahn brings the added element of academic excellence to all discussions regarding ACTEC's goal of maintaining a high quality of trust and estate legal services through education," she said. "With Professor Cahn's recent election to membership, the College is honored to have the one of the first academic members elected to the College from Washington, D.C."

Professor Cahn will be testifying on June 1 in front of the D.C. Council's Judiciary Committee on trusts and estates-related legislation.

In September, the University of Iowa College of Law, in conjunction with the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel Foundation, will sponsor a symposium titled "Wealth Transfer Law in Comparative and International Perspective." Leading national and international scholars will participate in three panels. Professor Cahn is set to join the first panel, which will address comparative and international perspectives on succession.
