Roderick R. McKelvie is a partner practicing in intellectual property and commercial litigation at Covington & Burling. He has handled intellectual property and commercial matters at the trial and appellate level, having been lead counsel in more than 20 jury trials. From 1992 to 2002, he served as a judge for the U.S. District Court for the District of Delaware. During his ten years on the bench, he presided over 100 trials, including over 30 patent infringement trials. He has written and spoken extensively on issues relating to intellectual property, patent infringement litigation, and trial management, and has a particular interest in how we educate and persuade juries in intellectual property litigation. Prior to his appointment to the bench, Judge McKelvie practiced law as a commercial litigator. Before that, he was a law clerk to Judge Caleb R. Layton, III, a judge on the District Court for the District of Delaware.
