Soumya Silver is an attorney, diplomat, and policy advisor specializing in counter-human trafficking. She currently serves as Senior Legal Affairs Advisor for the U.S. Department of State’s Office to Monitor and Combat Trafficking in Persons (J/TIP). In this role, Ms. Silver serves as a Department subject matter expert on legal issues pertaining to foreign governments’ anti-trafficking legislation. In this capacity, she also served as the U.S. representative to the United Nations (UN) expert working group responsible for redrafting the UN model law on trafficking in persons. Ms. Silver has been with J/TIP since 2012 and previously served as a Reports and Political Affairs Officer, responsible for conducting diplomatic engagement with foreign counterparts from over 30 African and European countries. She has also served as an Attorney Advisor for the U.S. Department of Justice’s Human Trafficking Protection Unit and as a Rule of Law Advisor at the U.S. Agency for International Development.
