GW Law Commencement 2022 Details

What: Photo with the Dean in front of the Lincoln Memorial - graduates can signup for a photo with Dean Matthew on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial.
When: May 11 & 12 from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m.
Special notes: Please sign up for a 15-minute time slot here. Graduates should wear regalia and arrive 15 minutes prior to their scheduled time. Please look for the large GW Law sign upon arrival. We will be located on the left side of the monument with the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting pool behind you. This event will be held rain or shine!

What: Dean’s Reception – join Dean Matthew and the faculty in a private reception honoring graduates and their guests. The National Portrait Gallery will be closed to the public and students and their guests will have unfettered access to the venue.
When: 7 pm – 9 pm
Where: the Smithsonian National Portrait Gallery at 8th and G Streets, NW, Washington, D.C.

What: The George Washington University-Wide Commencement
Where: the National Mall
When: 10:30 am, with the graduate procession will begin at 10:00 a.m.
Tickets: Each student can obtain 6 tickets for family and friends here. Additional tickets can be requested here.
Additional Notes: This event is held rain or shine, but if the National Park Service determines it is not safe to allow guests on the National Mall due to potential severe inclement weather, the University will attempt to hold the ceremony at the Smith Center for graduates and speaking participants only. Please check the Commencement website periodically on May 15 for the latest information.
What: Class of 2022 Photo - join your classmates for a GW Law tradition and take a photograph in front of the law school.
When: 1:15 pm
Where: corner of 20th and G Streets at 1:15 p.m. on May 15, 2022.
Special Note: GradImages will photograph the graduating class as a panoramic photo immediately prior to the diploma ceremony. Proofs of the panoramic group photograph will be included in the mailing to all graduates following Commencement.
What: The George Washington University Law School Diploma Ceremony – the law school’s ceremony will feature a keynote address from the Honorable Susan Ellis Wild, JD ’82. Congresswoman Wild currently serves as the U.S. Representative for Pennsylvania’s 7th Congressional District and is the first woman to represent her district.
When: 2:30 – 5:30 pm
Where: the Charles E. Smith Center, 600 22nd Street, NW, Washington, D.C. The academic procession will begin at Funger Hall
Tickets: Each graduate can obtain 5 tickets for the diploma celebration by registering here. Please note that all guests, including children over two years of age, are required to have tickets. Graduates do not need a ticket to attend either the University Graduation Ceremony or the Law School Diploma Celebration. If extra tickets to this event are required, please request them here.
Additional Information
Academic Regalia - rental caps, gowns, and hoods will be provided to all law school graduates through the Herff Jones Company. All ordered regalia should be delivered no later than May 1, 2022. If you missed the April 1, 2022 deadline for ordering regalia, please contact Dean Tammy Tideswell as soon as possible at TTideswelllaw [dot] gwu [dot] edu.
Regalia should be returned to Herff Jones immediately after commencement in the same box it was received in and with the prepaid shipping label provided.
Covid-19 Protocols - All graduates and guests, regardless of vaccination status, will be required to wear a mask for all indoor events.
In addition, we will require that all guests aged 5 and over visiting campus attest that they are vaccinated and boosted (if eligible), or if they are unvaccinated, attest that they will show proof of a negative COVID-19 test within 24 hours of their visit. Primary registrants will attest on behalf of their guests at registration and will be asked to provide their registered guests’ proof of vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test upon check-in.
We are also asking all of our guests to self-monitor for COVID-19 symptoms throughout the week. If you develop any COVID-19 symptoms, please stay home and/or seek medical attention.
Hearing Impaired Guests- Sign language interpreters will be provided for both the University commencement and the Law School diploma ceremonies. Please denote any need for accommodation when registering online for your commencement celebration tickets. Photos: Commencement photographs will be taken of each graduate as they cross the stage and receive their diploma. GradImages will send complimentary photo proofs to each graduate’s home address within one week of the ceremony. A link to an online version of the proofs will be e-mailed to graduates. There is no obligation to purchase photographs. For questions about individual graduate photographs please call 800.261.2576.
Vidoe: The University will videotape the diploma celebration and copies of the tape will be available for purchase through a University vendor. Information on how and where to purchase this video will be made available later.
