Alumni Commissioned as JAG Officers at GW Law

Michelle Ross, LLM '13, has received a commission as a First Lieutenant in the U.S. Army Reserve Judge Advocate General's Corps. In March 2017, she took her oath of office at GW Law, in a ceremony organized by Lisa M. Schenck, Associate Dean for Academic Affairs (Colonel, U.S. Army JAG Corps, ret.). Professor Gregory E. Maggs, a colonel in the Army Reserve, administered the oath of office. Ms. Ross has been assigned to the 151st Legal Operations Detachment, headquartered in Alexandria, Virginia. This unit primarily assists active duty JAG offices at various Army installations in Virginia. At GW Law, Ms. Ross studied national security law. In her civilian occupation, she is a legislative counsel for the National Guard Bureau.

MRBen Christian, JD '16, was also sworn in by Professor Maggs for the U.S. Army Judge Advocate General's Corps. Ms. Ross and Mr. Christian started the Judge Advocate Officer Basic Course in May along with other alums, Alex Brink, JD '16; Sean Cox, JD '09; Chris Hartnett, JD '15; Nathan Hatch, JD '11; Duncan Roberts, JD '09; and Josh Wilson, JD '14.

Mr. Christian and Mr. Brink will be serving on active duty - headed to Fort Bragg, North Carolina, after the Officer Basic Course.
