Genomics in the Public Square

With rapidly declining costs, genomic testing tools are becoming available at an explosive rate. Providers across the medical and health sciences disciplines are unprepared for the onslaught of these technologies for a variety of reasons. For example, the proliferation of next-generation sequencing has outpaced the capacity of graduate programs to educate health care providers about its value and limitations. This seminar will explore opportunities to advance public education in genomics, innovation in teaching strategies, and the risks and benefits of commercialized genomics offered by direct to consumer genetic testing companies.
