GW Law Dean Dayna Bowen Matthew's Statement on the Passing of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg

September 18, 2020

"Tonight we mourn the loss of a great Justice. I am writing to acknowledge that many in our community were very close to Justice Ginsburg. She was a great friend of GW Law and a frequent visitor to our campus. My heart is especially with each of you who knew her well.

Her passing is an enormous loss to our community and our country. For my part, I feel the loss of an historic and fierce advocate for my civil rights as a woman, and as an African American. She indeed bent the arc of the moral universe toward justice.

Our law school will continue to work to honor the legacy and the work of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg. As the Jewish calendar turns to a new year, I wish everyone peace and comfort." - Dean Dayna Bowen Matthew,  Dean and Harold H. Greene Professor of Law, The George Washington University Law School
