Mr. Kushan is a nationally recognized patent litigator who specializes in biotechnology/pharmaceutical patent litigation, PTAB proceedings and patent appeals. He presently co-chairs Sidley Austin’s national IP litigation practice. Mr. Kushan began his career at the Patent & Trademark Office as a biotechnology examiner, and later served in policy roles, where he led efforts to develop patent examination standards and worked on a variety of patent-related legislation and rulemaking. Mr. Kushan also served as an IP attaché to the U.S. Mission to the World Trade Organization in Geneva, Switzerland.  There, he was the chief U.S. negotiator for the WIPO Internet treaties, worked on WTO dispute settlement proceedings involving the TRIPS Agreement, and represented the U.S. on IP matters before WTO, WIPO and other international organizations. Mr. Kushan has testified numerous times before Congress and the FTC on domestic and international patent policy matters. He also has been recognized as an IP Trailblazer by the National Law Journal, is a Fellow of the American Bar Association, and has been recognized annually by Chambers and other ratings organizations.
