Maximilian Adolf Pock, Professor Emeritus of Law, passed away on February 8, 2020, at the age of 89.

Professor Emeritus Pock began his law studies at the Universities of Vienna and Innsbruck in his native Austria. In 1955, he came to the United States to study law at the University of Iowa Law School, where he received a JD in 1958. He then went to the University of Michigan Law School, teaching legal research and writing there for a year, and then pursuing an SJD which he obtained in 1962. His SJD studies led to the publication of two books on the use of independent special districts to solve problems in metropolitan areas.

Professor Emeritus Pock launched his legal academic career in 1961 at Emory University School of Law. In 1965, he came to GW Law, where he served for over three decades until his retirement in 1997. He regularly taught insurance law and conflicts of law at GW.

Most of Professor Emeritus Pock's scholarship, which included over 40 articles, was in the areas of insurance law, comparative law, and contracts. He served as one of the trustees of the Center of Auto Safety in Washington, DC, and as legal counsel to the American Academy of Dermatology on Workers' Compensation Law and occupational skin diseases. In 1967, he co-founded a bar review company which later, as BRI, became the most popular bar review organization in the country.
