Michael V. Kaplen is a partner in the New York law firm, De Caro & Kaplen, LLP. He is a leading legal advocate for the protection of individuals with brain injury and their families. He is Chairperson of the New York State Traumatic Brain Injury Services Coordinating Council and past president of the Brain Injury Association of New York State (1989-2008). Mr. Kaplen is Board Certified as a Civil Trial Advocate by the National Board of Trial Advocacy and Board Certified in Professional Liability-Medical Malpractice by the American Board of Professional Liability Attorneys.
Mr. Kaplen is a noted national author and lecturer on legal issues and advocacy in the field of traumatic brain injury. He is a member of the board of directors of the New York State Academy of Trial Lawyers and a former vice president. He is as a member of the Board of Governors of the American Board of Professional Liability Attorneys, the Board of Directors of the Melvin M. Belli Society and past chair of the American Association for Justice Traumatic Brain Injury Litigation Group and the Automobile, Highway and Premise Liability Section. He is Past Chair of the American Association for Justice Traumatic Brain Injury Litigation Group.
Mr. Kaplen is guest lecturer at The George Washington University Graduate School of Education and Human Development. He has been named a New York Super Lawyer for the past eight years and one of the top 100 trial lawyers in New York State by the American Association of Trial Lawyers. He is an elected fellow of the Melvin M. Belli Society. Mr. Kaplen has co-authored the chapter on NeuroLaw in the Psychiatric Clinics of North America’s special edition on Traumatic Brain Injury published by the American Psychiatric Association and a special column in the New York Law Journal on the Legal Aspects of Traumatic Brain Injury.
Mr. Kaplen’s legal practice focuses on representing persons with a traumatic brain injury caused by negligence and medical malpractice throughout the United States.
