Come and learn about "the good, the bad, and the ugly" of the colliding worlds of consumer genomics and DNA forensics at GW

Should law enforcement have access to genetic genealogy databases? How do we identify violent actors while also balancing the public's interest in privacy?

In this seminar, we will discuss public uses of genetic genealogy and ancestry companies as well as the pros and cons of law enforcement access to company databases. Our guests, Chief of Police John Fitzgerald and Law Professor Natalie Ram, along with GW bioethics, law, and medical faculty, Shawneequa Callier, Charles Macri, and Sonia Suter, will provide an overview of the opportunities and challenges and engage in discussion with attendees about the future of the colliding consumer genomics and forensic worlds.
