Friedman Fellowship Program

2021 Friedman Fellows

The Jacob Burns Community Legal Clinics of GW Law offer two-year clinical fellowships to law school graduates who have clerked or practiced since law school. The fellowships allow attorneys to practice and hone their legal skills and gain insight into clinical legal education and public interest law. In recognition of a generous gift from Philip Friedman, Esq., the fellows are known as Friedman Fellows.

Each fellowship is connected to a particular law school clinic and the fellow works closely with the clinic director. The fellows co-teach the clinic seminar and supervise law students alongside experienced clinical faculty who provide mentoring and support as fellows develop their skills. The program includes a program in clinical teaching and scholarship led by the Associate Dean for Clinical Affairs. In this program, fellows receive specific instruction and guidance in teaching, supervision, scholarship, and entering the teaching market. Fellows are exposed to and invited to partake in the academic life of GW Law and mentored by law faculty.

Fellows receive an annual stipend, health insurance and other benefits, and possible student loan deferment. For additional information please contact the Jacob Burns Community Legal Clinics at [email protected]
