Several GW Law students won major accolades at external advocacy competitions in New Orleans and Baltimore earlier this month.
Cordell Campbell and Jack Frye won the Mardi Gras Moot Court Invitational hosted by Tulane University Law School in New Orleans. This was no small feat with 36 teams competing. The Mardi Gras Invitational is the only annual moot court appellate competition that focuses on contemporary legal problems confronting the sports industry. The competition draws the best law schools and moot court programs in the country and takes place during one of the most exciting times in New Orleans: Mardi Gras. The competition took place at the John Minor Wisdom US Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit Courthouse.
They were coached by adjunct professor Ellen Zavian, General Counsel for USA Lacrosse, who had this to say about her teams, "The GW Law Moot Court Program maintains support on a constant basis at the highest level, so the students can learn, network, and challenge themselves when competing with other law schools. So proud of our Mardi Gras Teams and the total team effort to help Cordell and Jack take home the first-place trophy."
Arpitha Gorur won Best Overall Attorney at the 2025 Texas Young Lawyers Association National Trial Region 4 Competition (TYLA NTC), hosted by the University of Maryland - Carey School of Law in Baltimore, MD. Gorur and her teammate, Lauren Hill, were coached by adjunct professor Sidney Rocke. Prof. Rocke is GW Law Class of 1984 and Counsel to the Inspector General for the Troubled Asset Relief Program as well as a former federal prosecutor and Maryland Assistant Attorney General, who has handled numerous trials and court appearances nationwide.
Prof. Rocke had this to say, "Arpitha's award as Outstanding Attorney demonstrates both her talent and careful preparation for the tournament."
