GW Law Students Succeed at Advocacy Competitions

GW Law students continue to succeed at national advocacy competitions this spring.

Arpitha Gorur, class of 2026, and Jenna Thakkar, class of 2027, reached the quarter finals Region 4 (DC-area) of the Texas Young Lawyers Association National Trial Competition from February 6 to February 8 at American University. Arpitha was also selected as the Region’s Best Oral Advocate. GW Law alumnus and adjunct professor Sid Rocke, a retired former counsel to the Inspector General for the Troubled Asset Relief Program, coached the team.

Alexa Nohavicka, class of 2027, and Fusheng Zhou, class of 2026, reached the semi-finals of the National Telecommunications & Technology Moot Court Competition held at Catholic University from February 6 to February 7. GW Law alumnus and Adjunct Professor Frank Scaduto, counsel at Wiley Rein LLP, coached the team.

Scotty Ballard and Miranda Harrigan, both class of 2026, reached the semi-finals of the Costello National Criminal Law Trial Advocacy Competition hosted by George Mason University in Arlington, Virginia, from February 13-15, marking the first time a GW Law team has ever advanced in the competition. Adjunct Professor and a U.S. Attorney in the Homicide Section of the U.S. Attorney’s Office — District of Columbia Josh Hall coached the team.

Alex DiPaolo and Hank Stein, both class of 2026, finished second in the Fordham National Basketball Negotiation Competition in New York City on January 30 to January 31, securing the best result GW Law has ever received at the competition. Another GW Law team, Jack Narducci and Jared Ryback, both class of 2027, reached the semi-finals at the competition. Matthew Brooker, NBA senior director and associate counsel for player health, coached both teams.

Finally, Madison Medley and Abigail Scharf reached the quarter finals of the Tulane Professional Football Negotiation Competition in New Orleans also on January 30 and 31. Their performance was also the best a GW Law team has ever done at the competition. Andrew Morris, public policy/staff counsel at the NFL Players Association, coached the team.
