Elizabeth Rylander teaches Fundamentals of Lawyering and serves as an advisor to GW Law's Sandra Day O'Connor Inn of Court. Previously, she taught Legal Research & Writing, Regulation of Energy, and the Supervised Externship Seminar at American University Washington College of Law.

Professor Rylander practiced for more than 20 years in the Office of the General Counsel at the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission. She held two advisory positions in the Energy Markets Division and, later, an appellate litigation position in the Solicitor’s Office. As an appellate attorney, Professor Rylander represented the Commission in briefs and oral arguments before the federal circuit courts of appeals, most often in cases arising under the Federal Power Act.

Professor Rylander earned a BA in Economics from the University of Virginia, where she was a staff writer and production editor for the Cavalier Daily. She received her JD from William & Mary Law School, where she served as Symposium Editor for the William & Mary Bill of Rights Journal and was a member of the I’Anson-Hoffman American Inn of Court. She is a member of the Legal Writing Institute and serves on its New Member Outreach Committee.
