Portrait of Jon Kahan

Jonathan S. Kahan, BA ’70, JD ’73, is a recipient of this year’s Food and Drug Law Institute (FDLI) Distinguished Service and Leadership Award. Mr. Kahan and his fellow honorees were recognized earlier this month during the 2020 FDLI Virtual Annual Conference. They were selected by a committee comprised of recent FDLI award recipients.

The Distinguished Service and Leadership Award is one of FDLI’s top accolades. Established in 1993, it “recognizes individuals who have made notable contributions to the food and drug law community through their leadership” and “exemplify the dedication and leadership needed to promote public health, advance the food and drug and law field, and ensure a robust and innovative regulatory environment.”

A pathbreaking medical device lawyer, Mr. Kahan is a partner at Hogan Lovells and former director of the firm’s Medical Device and Technology Practice. Earlier this year, he funded the creation of a Health Law Initiative at GW Law, which is directed by Professor Sonia Suter, the Kahan Family Research Professor of Law. An adjunct professor at the law school, Mr. Kahan serves as chair emeritus and a member of the Dean’s Advisory Council. He also serves on the University’s Leadership Advisory Council.
