The Basel Committee has been the preeminent international forum for coordinating banking regulation since the 1980s. William Coen joined the Committee staff in 1999, becoming Secretary General in 2014. His vantage point during the 2006-08 financial crisis and the policy aftermath has been unparalleled. He now leads the international effort to ensure we do not see another banking crisis anytime soon. What has multilateral coordination done in the past decade? Are those achievements secure?
