IP Speaker Series - Professor Woodrow Hartzog on Data Loyalty

Wed, 6 April, 2022 12:00pm

Please join the Intellectual Property Law program for a discussion with Professor Woodrow Hartzog. Professor Hartzog will present his article “The Surprising Virtues of Data Loyalty” (co-authored with Neil Richards, forthcoming Emory Law Review), in which the authors challenge criticisms lodged at proposals to legislate duties of data loyalty in the U.S. and Europe. They argue that data loyalty can provide a range of positive policy benefits and can be supplemented by specific rulemaking when required. Participants can download the draft article here.

Professor Hartzog holds joint appointments at Northeastern University as Professor of Law and Computer Science. His research focuses on law and policy issues related to privacy, digital technologies and artificial intelligence.

The talk will be held in the Student Conference Center, on the second floor of Lisner Hall and lunch will be provided. Non-GW visitors are subject to GW's visitor requirements.
