A person with Global Witness, acting as a lawyer for a minister from a poor African country, asked NY lawyers about investing millions of dollars, raised in a questionable way, into the US. The minister did not want his identity disclosed. The "impostor" secretly recorded meetings with 16 lawyers with only one lawyer refusing to discuss the subject. The other lawyers, including then ABA President, while not agreeing to represent the minister, discussed ways to structure investment in the US to keep the minister's identity hidden. What transpired was aired on 60 Minutes in late February. The panel discussed the legal and ethical implications of the scenario as well as other issues relating to the role of the lawyer in stopping international corruption.
