Jason M. Weinstein

Jason Weinstein is a partner at Steptoe, where he co-chairs both the Investigations and White Collar Defense and the Blockchain and Cryptocurrency Practice Groups and represents corporations, boards, and individuals in investigations by DOJ, the SEC, CFTC, FinCEN, and other government agencies. Prior to joining Steptoe, he served as a Deputy Assistant Attorney General in DOJ’s Criminal Division, where Mr. Weinstein oversaw the Division’s cybercrime, transnational organized crime, and gang programs. He previously served for 10 years as an Assistant U.S. Attorney in the Southern District of New York and the District of Maryland, where he investigated and prosecuted cases involving financial crimes, public corruption, racketeering, cybercrime, national security, narcotics, money laundering, immigration offenses, and violent crime. In Maryland, Mr. Weinstein was Chief of the Violent Crime Section, where he pioneered Baltimore’s EXILE program, which resulted in historic reductions in murders and shootings in that city. He is a member of the advisory committees of the Chamber of Digital Commerce and Coin Center and the Director of the Blockchain Alliance, a public-private partnership among blockchain companies and government agencies around the world to help combat criminal activity involving cryptocurrencies and blockchain technology.
