Professor Murphy Delivers Annual Bruce J. Klatsky Endowed Lecture on Human Rights

In 2018, Case Western Reserve University Law featured lectures by individuals that have led the effort to create an international convention on crimes against humanity.

Sean D. Murphy, Manatt/Ahn Professor of International Law, UN International Law Commission Special Rapporteur for Crimes against Humanity and President of the American Society of International Law, delivered the annual Bruce J. Klatsky Endowed Lecture on Human Rights. In his lecture, “The International Law Commission’s Proposal for a Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of Crimes Against Humanity,” Murphy described the arguments and compromises necessary to convince his colleagues on the International Law Commission to support the creation of a global convention dedicated to preventing and punishing crimes against humanity and promoting inter-state cooperation. In addition to delivering the lecture, Professor Murphy was awarded the 2018 Case Western University Law School Humanitarian Award for Advancing Global Justice.
