Prior to joining the law school, Alfreda Robinson was in private practice and also served as a senior trial counsel and trial attorney for the Department of Justice, Civil Division, where she was in charge of litigation at the trial and appellate levels involving various commercial activities. At Justice, she received numerous awards for outstanding performance as well as the Attorney General Special Commendation for Outstanding Service in the Civil Division and the TARTAR Excellence Award for Outstanding Performance from the U.S. Navy Department. 

Since then, Dean Robinson has received many honors including: the NBA's highest award, The C. Francis Stradford Award, 2008; GW Law BLSA Professor Foundation Award, Patricia Roberts Harris, 2011; Extraordinary Leadership Award, Third National People (Faculty) of Color Legal Scholarship Conference, 2010; Presidential Award, National Bar Association, for outstanding service as chair, Standing Committee on Judicial Selection, 2005, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2011, 2012; The Hope Award, Presidential Inaugural Celebration, 2009; Outstanding Alumni Award, GW Law BLSA (2008); SANKOFA Award, National Bar Association, for exceptional service as chair, Standing Committee on Judicial Selection, 2006; National Chair Award, Second National Faculty (People) of Color Legal Scholarship Conference, 2004. She was honored in 2000 by the establishment of the Alfreda Robinson Endowed Fund in Trial Advocacy and the Michael J. Avenatti Award for Excellence in Pre-Trial and Trial Advocacy in recognition of her excellence in teaching. 

Her volunteer activities have included service as the National Bar Association’s Chair of the Standing Committee on Judicial Selection, Chair of the Law Professors Division, and Member of the Board of Governors, and the Regional Director for Washington, D.C. She is a member of the ABA Standing Committee on Judicial Independence and a Fellow of the American Bar Foundation of the American Bar Association. She is a member of the District of Columbia Bar.

Dean Robinson teaches pre-trial advocacy to JD and LLM students. Her current scholarship focuses on sanctions for pretrial misconduct, mediation, judicial selection, and judicial education.
