Alumni Spotlight: Patricia Lee

March 1, 2024
Women's History Month

As the first Black and Asian American woman to ascend to the Nevada Supreme Court, Justice Patricia Lee's, JD '02, journey to legal prominence embodies the spirit of both Black History Month and Women's History Month. Her trailblazing achievements serve as a testament to the resilience and determination of marginalized communities. Returning to her alma mater, GW Law, Justice Lee sat as a judge in the prestigious Van Vleck Constitutional Moot Court Competition.

Justice Lee's presence on the judging panel at the Van Vleck Constitutional Moot Court Competition resonates far beyond the courtroom. It serves as a beacon of inspiration for aspiring attorneys, particularly those from underrepresented backgrounds, encouraging them to pursue their dreams with determination and resilience. Her dual identity as both a Black and Asian American woman in the legal field underscores the importance of inclusion and representation, reminding us all of the ongoing work needed to create a more inclusive and equitable legal system for future generations.

Watch below as she shares insights into her journey to the bench and highlights the significance of alumni engagement. Reflecting on her own experiences, she emphasizes the importance of giving back to your alma maters in various ways, from providing mentorship, guest lecturing, and supporting educational initiatives. Her words serve as a poignant reminder of the transformative power of education and the profound impact that alumni can have on shaping the future of their institutions.
