Amping Up Tech Law: GW Law's Bernard Center Grows with New Faculty

GW Law recently welcomed an impressive array of new faculty to start the 2025-2026 academic year.  The GW Center for Law & Technology: The Bernard Center is thrilled that four of these new GW Law professors will be joining our already-impressive faculty in educating students and driving the conversation forward on IP, privacy, and tech law.

 

Christopher Cotropia

Christopher Cotropia

Professor Christopher Cotropia is a patent law and intellectual property law expert whose work spans empirical legal studies, patent law, computer law, and intellectual property. He has testified before several government bodies, ranging from the United States Senate Judiciary Committee to the United States International Trade Commission, on patent law issues. Prior to joining GW Law, he was on the faculty of the University of Richmond School of Law.

Andrew Guthrie Ferguson

Andrew Guthrie Ferguson

Professor Andrew Guthrie Ferguson is an expert in criminal procedure whose scholarship examines the implications of law enforcement use of surveillance and other technologies. His latest book, Your Data Will Be Used Against You: Policing in the Age of Self-Surveillance, will be published in March 2026. Prior to joining GW Law, he was on the faculty of the American University Washington College of Law.

Kristin Johnson

Kristin Johnson

Professor Kristin Johnson joins us after serving as a commissioner for the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) for the last three years. Her teaching and writing explore regulation and private ordering of capital and credit markets, including the implications of emerging technologies such as blockchain and AI that target commercial and consumer financial transactions, transfers, and assessments. Prior to serving as a CFTC commissioner, she was on the faculty of Emory University School of Law.

Maneka Sinha

Maneka Sinha

Professor Maneka Sinha, who will begin teaching at GW Law in January 2026, is an expert in forensic evidence issues and criminal litigation. Her research focuses on the intersection of forensic science evidence and outcomes in criminal cases, as well as issues relating to technology-driven policing. Prior to joining GW Law, she was on the faculty of the University of Maryland Francis King Carey School of Law. She is serving as a Visiting Professor of Clinical Law at NYU Law during the fall of 2025.
