Chad T. Sarchio, JD ’95, Takes Helm as D.C. Bar President

On June 24, Chad T. Sarchio, JD ’95, was installed as the 50 th president of the D.C. Bar, during the virtual “2021 Celebration of Leadership” ceremony that drew more than 350 attendees.

After being sworn in by D.C. Court of Appeals Chief Judge Anna Blackburne-Rigsby, Mr.Sarchio outlined his goals and priorities for coming year. In particular, he addressed the growing need for pro bono services in the District. “It will take new solutions and redoubled commitments to meet these needs,” said Mr. Sarchio.

He also acknowledged the extraordinary challenges the COVID-19 pandemic has posed for members of the legal community, who may themselves be in crisis; and he advocated for more programs and services that would tend to the well-being of attorneys.

Mr. Sarchio, who has been a member of the D.C. Bar for more than 20 years, is profiled in the July/August 2021 issue of D.C. Bar’s Washington Lawyer. 

Mr. Sarchio serves as associate chief counsel for International Law at the Drug Enforcement Administration. Previously, he served as a federal prosecutor with the U.S. Attorney’s Office in the District of Columbia. 

At the beginning of his legal career, Mr. Sarchio served as an active-duty member of the U.S. Army Judge Advocate General’s (JAG) Corps, and he served in the JAG Reserves from 2000 to 2019.

At GW Law, Mr. Sarchio is a Professorial Lecturer in Law, where he has taught courses on trial advocacy and pretrial practice since 1999. Additionally, he has taught trial advocacy as an adjunct professor of criminal law at the Army’s JAG School and at the Department of Justice's National Advocacy Center.
