In April, 2022, GW Law Associate Dean Alfreda Robinson, 77th President of the National Bar Association (NBA), led an official delegation to The International Criminal Court (ICC) in The Hague, The Netherlands. While there, the delegation enjoyed a private Presentation by ICC Judge Joanna Korner, Presiding Judge in Prosecutor v. al Rahman (Situation in Darfur).

In addition the group observed the first post-pandemic live proceeding, the Trial of Mr. al Rahman, who is charged with perpetrating war crimes and crimes against humanity in Darfur, Sudan in 2003 and 2004.

Attendees included, Edward Jeremy, ICC Prosecutor on the al Rahman case, and Bolanle (Bola) Olupona, Attorney, ICC Trial Chambers. It is gratifying to see Associate Dean Alfreda Robinson leading a delegation from the National Bar Association (NBA) to directly observe the work of the International Criminal Court at the Hague. The International Criminal Court plays a key role in the prosecution of war crimes, crimes against humanity, and genocide in Africa and in many other parts of the world. This kind of engagement is critical for the advancement of international law, its impact, reach, and effectiveness.
