IP Speaker Series - Professor Zvi Rosen
Please join the Intellectual Property Law program—in person or virtually—as they welcome their next speaker and GW Alum Professor Zvi Rosen. Professor Rosen will present his article "Examining Copyright" (forthcoming, Journal of the Copyright Society of the USA).
Goldsmith update: Before presenting his paper, Professor Rosen will give us an update on the controversial Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts Inc. v. Lynn Goldsmith case currently before the United States Supreme Court, in which he has submitted an amicus brief.
Examining Copyright: While patent and trademark examination have received significant academic attention, the process of copyright examination has been neglected by legal scholarship. This paper examines the history of copyright examination, reviewing empirical data on registration rejections over the past sixty years. It offers a proposal for a more efficient system that would automate examination for certain categories of works with low rejection rates upon the filing of an affidavit which would make clear that the work has no unusual features which would tend to lead to rejection.
Professor Rosen is Assistant Professor of Law at Southern Illinois University School of Law and a graduate of the LLM in IP program at GW Law.
This event will be in a hybrid format. For those who can join us in person, we will be offering a box lunch in the Jacob Burns Moot Court Room at the Law School. The George Washington University Law School, 2000 H Street, NW Washington, DC 20052. Visitors are asked to keep up-to-date on GW's current COVID-19 policies.
