Mark Glaze, JD '99, an influential figure in the gun-control movement, passed away on October 31, 2021, in Scranton, PA, at the age of 51.
Mr. Glaze was perhaps best known for his role as executive director of Everytown for Gun Safety (2011-2014), whose mission is ending gun violence and building safer communities.
Prior to assuming the leadership for the organization, Mr. Glaze joined Mayors Against Illegal Guns in 2011. The organization was founded by Michael R. Bloomberg and more than a dozen other mayors. In 2014, according to the New York Times, Mayors Against Illegal Guns merged with Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America to form Everytown for Gun Safety.
After stepping down from the leadership of Everytown for Gun Safety, Mr. Glaze founded Guns Down, and he consulted with the organization Brady: United Against Gun Violence. During his career, he also was a principal with the Raben Group, a public affairs firm, where his portfolio included campaign finance reform, government ethics, and LGBTQ issues.
Mr. Glaze was born on October 21, 1970, in Pueblo, CO. He graduated from Colorado College in 1992 with a degree in political economy. He earned his law degree from GW Law in 1999. He is survived by his son, Archer.
