GW Law Writing Fellows

The Writing Fellows are selected from a competitive group of applicants. They have excellent legal writing and analysis skills, and represent a wide range of educational, linguistic, and professional backgrounds.

Writing Fellows are trained to work with GW Law JD and LLM students. If you’re a GW student in another program, a law school alumnus, or someone in the community who wants help with a legal writing project, please contact us at writingcenteratlaw [dot] gwu [dot] edu (writingcenter[at]law[dot]gwu[dot]edu) or 202.994.0264.

The GW Law Writing Center is open throughout the academic year to meet with students in one-on-one writing conferences. To schedule a conference with a Writing Fellow, click on the "Schedule an Appointment" button below. Students can sign up for a conference up to 21 days in advance. Sammy Abdulrahim

Pronouns: he/him

Sammy is a 3L who grew up in Amman, Jordan, and is a first-generation law student. He's passionate about banking and finance law and is involved in several student organizations, including the George Washington International Law Review, the Corporate and Business Law Society, and the Middle Eastern and North African Law Student Association. Before law school, he was a research and communications officer at the Embassy of Jordan in Washington, DC. Sammy has a bachelors degree in international politics and economics from Middlebury College. As a Writing Fellow, he enjoys helping students build confidence in their legal writing and breaking down abstract concepts into something more approachable. Outside of law school, he enjoys practicing various martial arts, playing video games, and spending time with friends and family.

Kristina is a 2L from the Bay Area, California, and graduated from UC Berkeley. During law school, she became involved in SIPLA, the Student Bar Association, and the Law Association for Women. She has a strong interest in soft intellectual property law. As a first-generation law student, Kristina understands how overwhelming law school can feel, especially in the early days of learning legal writing. She hopes to be a friendly face and a supportive resource to help students build confidence in their writing. When not studying, you can find her running with the North East Track Club, cooking a fun new recipe, or winding down with a good movie.

Defne (pronounced like Daphne from Scooby-Doo) is a 2L from New Jersey with interests in intellectual property and healthcare law. She studied at the University of Connecticut receiving a BS in Molecular and Cell Biology and a BA in Urban and Community Studies. She is apart of the American Intellectual Property Law Association Quarterly Journal and is Assistant Director of Advocacy for SBA. She currently works as a PTAB Law Clerk and has worked in non-profit, city government and other public service positions. In her spare time she loves to read, go on runs and fuel her shopping addiction. She also has a food page which she hopes to grow during this year!

Olivia is a 2L interested in international law and litigation. She is from Suffern, NY, and graduated from the University of Delaware with a BA in International Relations and a minor in French and Legal Studies. In addition to her role as a Writing Fellow, Olivia is a member of the International Law in Domestic Courts Journal and the Moot Court Board. Outside of school, Olivia loves to travel, try new restaurants, and read psychological thrillers. She is excited to be able to help students grow into confident legal writers and is happy to answer any questions about law school.

Charlie is a 3L from Lake Oswego, Oregon. He attended the University of Vermont as a History major and English minor. At GW, Charlie is a member of the George Washington Law Review and the Moot Court and Mock Trial Boards. He spent his 1L summer as a judicial intern at the United States District Court for the District of Columbia and his 2L summer as a summer associate at Simpson Thacher in DC. In his free time, Charlie likes walking in Rock Creek Park, spotting wildlife, and listening to Steely Dan.

Caitlin is a 2L from North Carolina with an interest in regulatory law and corporate transactions. Before law school, Caitlin worked as a children's book editor in DC for four years, an experience that left her with a head full of fun facts about animals and science. At GW, Caitlin is a member of the George Washington Law Review and the Alternative Dispute Resolution Board, and she serves as a Student Advisor for the Ginsburg Inn of Court. Outside of school, Caitlin enjoys reading, exploring new places, and taking walks around her neighborhood to admire houses she can't afford. She looks forward to helping students with some of the same questions she had about legal research and writing, and to helping 1Ls feel more confident in their skills.

Serelle is a 3L interested in Corporate and Transactional law. She is excited to serve as a Writing Fellow for a second year to help students ease the transition into legal writing, find their own writing style, and excel throughout the legal writing process. Serelle is a member of the George Washington International Law Review and prior to law school, she graduated from Colgate University with a BA in Peace & Conflict Studies and a Minor in French. Outside of school, Serelle enjoys cooking, reading mystery novels, and traveling.

He received a BA in English & Philosophy from San Diego State University and worked at a personal injury firm in San Diego before beginning law school. He is interested in litigation, white collar, antitrust, and procurement within the law. Outside of school, his hobbies include archery, running, golf, reading, programming, and attending concerts.

Margaret spent her 1L summer as a legal intern at Human Rights for Kids and her 2L summer at Sheppard Mullin as a summer associate. During her Spring of 2L, Margaret was an extern at the US Court of Federal Claims. She is a first-generation law student and is always happy to answer any questions. Margaret chose to be a writing fellow because she has seen how helpful the process is and hopes to be able to help others!

She is passionate about public interest work, particularly in the areas of labor and employment law. As a writing fellow, she looks forward to helping students develop confidence in their legal writing and cultivate their unique style. Savannah is a 2L from Illinois. Savannah attended Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, OH where she earned her BA in Political Science and International Studies with a minor in Arabic and her MA in Military Ethics. A GW, Savannah is also the a member of the International Law Review, Chapter Co-Director of IRAP, the Community Coordinator for the Immigration Law Association, an Inns of Court Student Advisor, and a member of the GW Law Slowpitch Team. Savannah is interested in international law, immigration law, and litigation. Savannah loves reading thrillers, learning new languages, and Shonda Rhimes shows.

Outside of law school, Connor enjoys traveling, watching movies, and exploring the city. Prior to attending GW, he graduated from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor and worked at a trade association representing institutional investors and at a law firm as a litigation paralegal.

Dhruthi Gundurao is a 2L from Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania. She graduated from the University of Pittsburgh in 2024 with a Bachelors of Science in Chemistry. She has an interest in Intellectual property and spent this past summer working at Sterne Kessler where she was a Summer Associate in their Biotechnology & Chemical practice group. At GW, Dhruthi is also a member of the Moot Court Board and the AIPLA Quarterly Journal. As a writing fellow, she hopes to be a resource and mentor for students as they improve their legal writing skills. In her free time, Dhruthi loves to read, explore the food scene in DC, and travel.

Before law school, she spent two years as an investment banking analyst in New York. Outside of law school, MacKenzie loves to try new brunch spots in DC, spend time with friends, and watch Survivor or football. Echo is a 3L from Jiaxing, China. She came to Philadelphia for high school, where she considers as her second home. She completed her undergraduate degree at the University of Wisconsin-Madison with a political science degree. Echo worked at a global marketing firm in Shanghai before she came to DC for law school. This past summer, she worked at the General Counsel's office in CarFAX, Virginia. At GW, Echo is a member of the Moot Court Board and a Notes Editor of the GW International Law Review. Echo is also a nerd in history and old texts. During her spare time, she enjoys going to the gym, catching up with friends, wandering through cities and hiking trails, exploring new restaurants, and rewatching her favorite shows. Her dream job outside of law is to be a horseback riding coach.

Jacob is a 2L from the DC area. He graduated from the University of Maryland in 2024 with a BS in Management and a minor in History. His main interests are international, environmental, and transactional law. He is a member of the International Law Review, the International Law Society, and the Legal History Society. Jacob spent his 1L summer as a judicial intern with the Appellate Court of Maryland. As a first-generation law student, Jacob understands that the transition into law school can be overwhelming and enjoys helping 1Ls navigate that process. In his free time, Jacob enjoys hiking, travelling, playing video games, and going down historical research rabbit holes. Jacob is also happy to both give and receive restaurant recommendations!

During college, she served as a peer tutor, supporting undergraduate, graduate, and PhD students across a range of disciplines. She also brings experience in securities enforcement and corporate governance. At GW Law, she serves as the Alumni Chair for BLSA and is a member of the Business & Finance Law Review, Moot Court Board, and Dean's Advisory Board. In her spare time, she enjoys journaling, exploring new fitness classes, and cheering on the New York Mets. Nam is a 2L from Germantown, Maryland, interested in litigation and administrative law. He received his undergraduate degree from the George Washington University where he majored in International Affairs and Political Science with a minor in Economics. At GW Law, he is a member of the George Washington Law Review, the Moot Court Board, and the Alternative Dispute Resolution Board. Nam also is the President of the Consumer Law Association and the Treasurer of the Antitrust Law Association. This past summer, he served as the Janet D. Steiger Fellow at the Maryland Office of the Attorney General, Consumer Protection Division. As a Writing Fellow, Nam is excited to helping 1L students navigate their first year of law school and grow their legal research and writing skills. When he's not at school, he enjoys playing soccer with his friends, taking care of his 12 plants, and training for his first marathon.

At GW, Amanda is actively involved in several organizations: she is an articles editor for the George Washington International Law Review, treasurer of the Moot Court Board, a member of the Kahan Health Law Fellowship, and previously served as the president of the Student Health Law Association. As a returning Writing Fellow, she is excited to continue helping students at any stage of their writing process, emphasizing the discovery of each individual's unique voice and writing style. Outside GW, you can find Amanda practicing at a hot yoga studio, enjoying a sweet treat, or exploring the city with friends.

Before attending GW, Anna worked on federal consulting projects for the Department of Transportation, as well as worked as a Paralegal for the Department of Justice's Civil Rights Division. She is a member of the George Washington Law Review and spent her 1L summer interning at the United States District Court for the District of Columbia. As a Writing Fellow, Anna is thrilled to support students in their development of personalized and confident approaches to legal writing. She graduated from Boston University with a BA in Philosophy and a minor in French. Before law school, Ruska interned with the Administration of the President of Georgia and the International Rescue Committee. At GW, she is a member of the Journal of Law and Technology as well as being on the ADR, Mock Trial, and Moot Court boards. Outside of law school, Ruska loves to browse vintage furniture stores and cheer for Georgia in rugby.

Ujwala Murthy is a 2L interested in the intersection of public defense, immigration law, and youth justice. She is from Queens in New York City and graduated from the University of Michigan with a degree in Business Administration and a degree in Political Science. Before law school, Ujwala lived in the Bay Area and worked as a grant writer for six years at two different nonprofit organizations, Room to Read and the East Bay Community Law Center. This past summer, Ujwala interned in deportation defense with Pangea Legal Services in San Francisco. As the first in her family to earn a JD, she is excited to make legal writing more inclusive, approachable, and accessible as a Writing Fellow. In her free time, she enjoys cooking for others and translating news articles for RioOnWatch, an online favela newspaper based in Rio de Janeiro.

Navya Nagubadi

Navya is a 2L interested in international law and human rights work. She is from Chicago, IL and graduated from UCLA with a degree in International Development Studies with minors in Gender Studies and Arabic & Islamic Studies. Navya is a member of the GW International Law Review and the President of the Law, Justice, and International Development Society. She spent her summer working for the IL Human Rights Commission reviewing and drafting orders for pending human rights cases. Navya chose to become a Writing Fellow because, as a first-generation law student, she found the Writing Center incredibly helpful during her 1L year, and is excited to work with students to achieve their potential as legal writers and develop their own unique writing styles. Outside of school, Navya enjoys traveling, lifting weights, and rewatching Disney and Star Wars movies.

Ruby is a 2L from Baltimore, MD, with an interest in labor and employment law and consumer protection law. She is a first-generation law student. At GW, Ruby is a member of the George Washington Law Review and the co-director of events for the Plaintiffs' Law Association. Before attending law school, Ruby worked as an archival producer in documentary film and television. She is a big movie buff and has recently become a big reality TV fan, equally happy to talk the newest PTA or the newest episode of Love Island.

Anne is a 3L from Naples, FL. She graduated from Washington & Lee University with a BA in Economics and German and a minor in Arabic. Prior to law school, Anne was a Fulbright student in Graz, Austria, where she taught English to Austrian high school students and German to refugees. At GW, Anne is part of SIPLA, the International Law Society, the Moot Court Board, and International Law Review. Anne is interested in litigation, antitrust, and project finance (among other things!). Outside of school, Anne enjoys learning languages, taking workout classes, baking, trying new restaurants, and playing tennis and golf. She's excited to return to the Writing Center this year!

Elianna is a 2L from Laurel, MD, and she has been living in DC since she moved away from home for college in 2017. She completed her undergraduate degree at Georgetown University, where she studied International Politics at the Walsh School of Foreign Service. This past summer, Elianna worked as a judicial intern for Judge Amy Berman Jackson at the U.S. District Court for DC. Elianna chose to be a Writing Fellow because she got great advice and support from the Writing Center her 1L year, and she is hoping to pay it forward. At GW Law, Elianna is a member of the George Washington Law Review and a teaching assistant for Professor Berman’s fall Civil Procedure class. In her free time, Elianna enjoys embroidery, drinking boba tea, and checking out the free events at various DC museums (her favorite is the Museum of Natural History!).

Julia Scolapio is a third year law student and member of the George Washington Law Review. Prior to law school, Julia received her undergraduate degree at the George Washington University and a Masters in Bilingual Education at Southern Methodist University. Before law school, Julia worked as a bilingual elementary school teacher in Dallas, TX through Teach for America and lived in Ecuador as a Fulbright Scholar. During her 1L summer, Julia worked as a law clerk at Bread for the City and during her 2L summer, she was a summer associate at Gibson Dunn.

Prior to law school, Paris worked as a Paralegal at a civil rights law firm in Washington, DC where she got her first glimpse into legal writing. At GW, Paris is a member of the GW Law Journal of Energy and Environmental Law and a Student Advisor for the Inns of Court Program. She spent her 1L summer as a judicial intern in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania. In her free time, Paris likes going to workout classes and playing piano. As a Writing Fellow, Paris looks forward to connecting with fellow students and helping them become better writers, just as others once helped her.

Rehna is a 2L from Atlanta, Georgia. She graduated from the University of Georgia with a BA in International Affairs and minors in Disaster Management and Spanish. Before law school, Rehna was a Research Fellow with the American Foreign Policy Council in DC, where she specialized in U.S. national security and the Indo-Pacific region, with an emphasis on U.S.-China and U.S.-India relations. At GW, Rehna is a member of the George Washington International Law Review, and serves as Treasurer of the International Law Society and on the Moot Court Board. This past summer, she worked on international trade, regulatory, and litigation matters at Clifford Chance LLP in DC and is excited to be returning next summer. In Rehna's free time, she loves hiking mountains, cooking, and spending time with her family and friends. She is excited to help 1Ls grow their writing skills through the Writing Center.

She graduated from DePaul University with a BA in Applied Diplomacy and International Law. At GW, she is a member of the George Washington International Law Review. As a writing fellow, Hannah is excited to help students build confidence in their legal writing and advocacy skills. She looks forward to being a resource for students and is always happy to chat about law school, career paths, or anything else on your mind. Maegan is a 2L from Charlotte, NC. She graduated from the University of Georgia with a BA in International Affairs in 2023 and a Masters in International Policy in 2024. At GW, Maegan is a member of the International Law in Domestic Courts journal, ADR Board, and the National Security Law Association. She is interested in pursuing a career in international and national security law. In her free time, she enjoys trying new restaurants, running, and watching college football. Maegan looks forward to helping students develop their legal writing skills and grow!

Bella is a 2L from McLean, Virginia who worked in healthcare consulting prior to law school. She graduated from the University of Virginia in 2020 with a BS in Mechanical Engineering and a BA in Mathematics. Bella spent her 1L summer at the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia and she is a member of the George Washington Law Review. In her free time, she loves to bake, read fiction, and play board games with friends. Bella found the Writing Center invaluable during her 1L year and she is excited to help students become skilled and confident legal writers!

Fiona is a 2L from Baltimore, MD, with an interest in corporate transactional and real estate law. She graduated from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County, in 2024 with a degree in political science and public health. During her time there, she interned with in-house counsel at a real estate investment trust. This past summer, she worked as a research assistant for Dean Randall Abate, contributing to the second edition of his book Climate Change and the Voiceless through research on environmental law. This year, she will continue working as a research assistant for another professor and will also serve in the Vaccine Injury Litigation Clinic. In her free time, Fiona enjoys baking, watching psychological thrillers, and planning her next outfit! She is excited to give back to the Writing Center by helping students grow their legal writing and research skills, just as it supported her during her first year.

Grace Tramack

Grace Tramack is a 2L from Nashua, NH. She graduated from the College of William and Mary with a BA in Government and History. At GW, Grace is part of the Moot Court Board and Federal Circuit Bar Journal, and she is the Vice President of the Law Association for Women. She is excited to work as a Writing Fellow to help new law students find their voice and feel more confident in their legal writing. Outside the Writing Center, Grace loves cooking, hiking, cheering on the Boston Celtics, listening to Taylor Swift, and swimming.

Victoria is a 2L from Hong Kong interested in transactional, financing, and regulatory work with a focus on urbanization and globalization. She graduated from Barnard College of Columbia University in New York City with a major in Urban Studies (Psychology) and a minor in Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies. At GW Law, Victoria is a member of the George Washington International Law Review and is the Vice President of the Real Estate Law Association. As a Writing Fellow and an avid user of the Writing Center throughout her 1L year, Victoria hopes to create a supportive environment for fellow students to improve their legal writing. Outside of school and work, Victoria loves to spend time with her loved ones, cook and bake, and volunteer with community organizations.

Kaci is a 3L interested in government contracts and administrative law from Destrehan, LA. She graduated from Northwestern State University of Louisiana with a BA in Liberal Arts with a concentration of Humanities and Social Thought and BS in Psychology. At GW, Kaci is the Projects Editor for the Public Contract Law Journal and Alternative Dispute Resolution Board. This past summer, she worked for the Civilian Board of Contract Appeals and as a research assistant for Professor Liu. Kaci is excited to return as a writing fellow to help students find their voice and gain confidence in their legal research and writing skills. In her free time, Kaci loves to take a drive to the suburbs, try new restaurants, and binge-watch her latest TV show obsession.

 

DuPree Walker
 

 

DuPree Walker

DuPree Walker is a 2L hailing from the great state of Alaska. Her career interests lie in international arbitration, trade disputes and human rights work. At GW, DuPree is a member of the International Law in the Domestic Courts Journal, International Law Society, Black Law Students Association and does health and wellness programming for the SBA. DuPree understands how challenging legal writing can be and the Writing Center was an integral part of her overcoming the obstacles that many 1L's face. Because of this, she is overjoyed to be a part of this amazing center and help students find their footing as they take on legal writing.

Prior to attending GW, DuPree graduated from Howard University with degrees in International Affairs and Spanish with a minor in English. After Howard DuPree spent two years in DC working at a law firm as an International Arbitration and Litigation Paralegal. Outside of school you can find DuPree practicing yoga (she is a certified instructor), along with this she loves to read, crochet, cook, flip through fashion magazines and take her perfect pooch Grover on lots of runs.

Chenyang is a rising 3L and a returning Writing Fellow. She grew up in China and went to Peking University Law School. Before starting law school, she worked at a law firm and traveled a lot around China and Japan. Chenyang is a native Chinese speaker and also fluent in Japanese. In her free time, she loves watching TV shows and anime.

Sophia is a 2L with an interest in litigation. She grew up in Santa Clarita, California and graduated from George Washington University with a BA in International Affairs and a minor in Sociology. Prior to law school, Sophia was an insurance litigation paralegal at a law firm in Washington, DC. At GW, Sophia is a member of the Federal Communications Law Journal. As a Writing Fellow, Sophia is excited to provide a space for students to ask questions, try out new ideas, and boost their confidence in their writing abilities. Overall, she hopes to serve as a resource for students as they navigate the law school experience. When she isn't studying, Sophia enjoys reading, doing yoga, and trying new restaurants around DC.

Thomas is a 2L from Nashville, Tennessee. He attended the University of Tennessee at Knoxville where he studied Political Science and History. At GW, he is a member of the George Washington Law Review and the International Law Society. Last summer, Thomas interned for a Judge at the Superior Court of the District of Columbia. As a Writing Fellow, he looks forward to helping students apply their writing styles and skills to legal writing. As a first generation law student, he is also happy to answer any general questions about law school. In his free time, Thomas enjoys vegetarian cooking, drumming, and collecting useless bits of trivia.

Jason is a 2L, originally from Parkland, Florida. He is a graduate of George Washington University, where he majored in Political Science and minored in Criminal Justice. At GW Law, Jason is Co-President of the Plaintiffs Law Association and a member of both the International Law in Domestic Courts Journal and the Moot Court Board. Outside of law school, he coaches the GW Club Wrestling Team, officiates high school wrestling, and, in his free time, enjoys going to the gym and watching reality TV, particularly Survivor.
