What made you decide to apply to be a member of the GWLAA board? Have there been any particularly rewarding or challenging experiences serving on the board?
I had long considered participating in the GW Law community in some way, but with work and family, and distance, there did not seem any reasonable opportunity. When I was approached by the Development Office on their visit to Atlanta, I was intrigued by the opportunity to be part of the GWLAA board. Being able to reconnect with the law school and people who were an essential part of my professional growth and development has been rewarding. The GWLAA has a number of important committees that contribute to connecting students to alumni and alumni to one another, like the regional committee and the mentor committee. I am proud to be a mentor to an Open Door Scholar and I wish more alumni took the opportunity to experience mentorship to a GW law student.
Is there a class or experience during your time as a student at GW Law that you found particularly helpful or impactful?
I enjoyed the Consumer Law Clinic, back in the day. I was able to work with clients on real issues, apply legal research and writing skills, and find legal solutions to problems affecting people's lives. I was also able to attend a Supreme Court argument when the law firm I had interned with argued a case which I made the basis of my thesis.
If you could go back in time, what advice would you give to yourself as a 1L?
Take advantage of everything GW and D.C. have to offer; pay attention and study hard, but don't lose sight of the big picture--what law school will allow you to contribute to your community and to society.
