Professor Cahn Elected to American Law Institute

Naomi Cahn

Naomi R. Cahn, Harold H. Greene Professor of Law at GW Law, has just been elected to the American Law Institute (ALI). New members bring their perspectives and areas of expertise to ALI’s work of clarifying the law through Restatements, Principles, and model statutes, including the Model Penal Code.

As a new ALI member, Professor Cahn joins many other GW Law faculty, including Karen Brown, Thomas Buergenthal, Steve Charnovitz, Bradford Clark, Charles B. Craver, Robert J. Cottrol, Roger A. Fairfax, Jr., Emily Hammond, Orin S. Kerr, Laird Kirkpatrick, Cynthia Lee, Gregory E. Maggs, Dean Blake D. Morant, Thomas Morgan, Alan B. Morrison, Sean D. Murphy, Jeffrey Rosen, Stephen A. Saltzburg, Thomas J. Schoenbaum, Daniel J. Solove, John Spanogle, and Edward T. Swaine.

ALI President Roberta Cooper Ramo said in a press release, "One of the most exciting aspects of being President of ALI is meeting some of today's most important and inspiring legal minds as they are elected into the American Law Institute. I look forward to having the opportunity to work alongside these new members in continuing ALI's efforts in clarifying the law."

Professor Cahn has written numerous law review articles and books on family law, trusts and estates, and feminist jurisprudence. Her other areas of expertise, which she also teaches courses on at the law school, include elder law, child, and state jurisprudence.

For the past year, Professor Cahn has been serving as an adviser to ALI’s Restatement project on Children and the Law.
